The best modern esports FPS

The FPS genre, according to some reports, originated in the late 80s and early 90s of the previous century. And almost immediately after the world got acquainted with the Internet technology, it won the hearts of many gamers. Around the same time, many of the genre began to create first-person shooters, not only for single-player, but also for multiplayer games. Many of them later became esports disciplines. Thousands of professional teams and players have formed from these games. A list of them can be found, for example, on the website… Now, let’s take a look at some of the best in the FPS genre through the lens of esports.

Counter strike: global offensive

This video game is a direct inheritor and continuation of the old Counter Strike mod based on the Half-Life engine (FPS developed by Valve) back in the 90s of the last century. The mod quickly gained widespread popularity, and many players gradually forgot about the game that gave birth to Counter Strike. Observing such trends, Valve decided to continue the development of the two franchises in parallel. This is how Counter Strike: Global Offensive was coined.

It should be noted that most of the non-professional players in this esports discipline, on an ongoing basis, watch various championships and competitions in this discipline, which makes it so profitable from a financial point of view. For example, the largest majors in this area can easily collect up to several hundred thousand viewers on Twitch.

The gameplay itself is pretty straightforward. There are two basic teams – terrorists and special forces. The first task is to plant a bomb and then detonate an object, or to control a group of hostages for some time. The second team must prevent the installation and explosion of the bomb, as well as take the hostages out of the danger zone. The game features simple mechanics and has a fairly low entry threshold.

Overwatch is the highest quality and most adequate FPS currently available to a wide range of users. This is an unprecedented experiment in the world of eSports FPS, which, without a doubt, has been extremely well liked by all ordinary gamers, but has not yet fully revealed its full eSports potential. It combines very well the elements of the classic first-person shooter and MOBA games.

This state of affairs is connected, first of all, with the fact that The Blizzard (the developers and publishers of this game) – rather badly thought out the policy of organizing championships and left the right to arrange a competition only for their own company. At the same time, thinking about it from the point of view of The Blizzard – such a monopoly is not the most stupid step, since it is it that contributes to the incredible quality and high rates of organization of each event.

The battle in this game takes place between two teams of conditional superheroes, each of which has an individual set of interesting qualities and skills. For example, Tracer is a very fast character, she is maneuverable and able to teleport, but at the same time she is easy to kill. And the tank, named Reinhard, is very tenacious, knows how to place a large shield, but does not have a ranged attack. Therefore, in order to achieve maximum efficiency in the game, it is necessary to choose characters who can effectively fight against the enemy’s characters.

This FPS from the Riot Games company was developed relatively recently, but it is already predicted a great esports future for it. Most likely, it will be so, since Valorant actively combines several rather significant advantages from the two games described above. The release of this game took place in 2019, and it almost immediately attracted massive attention of the entire gaming community. Many professional esports players have even chosen to give up their usual games for good and switch to Valorant.

Another rather important parameter that plays into the hands of this digital product is the rather low system requirements. That is, in fact – it can run even on rather weak and old computers. I must say that this is far from the only plus of this esports discipline. Among others, for example, one can single out quite nice graphics, as well as a rather interesting physics engine.

From a purely gameplay point of view, the game is nothing more than a mixture of MOBA (the presence of the so-called “Ulta”, skills, etc.) and a simple FPS. It repeats Counter Strike: Global Offensive in many ways, for example, the need to undermine objects through the installation of a special spike. In a way, we can say that Valorant is nothing more than a mixture of the already mentioned CS: GO and Overwatch.

Call of duty

This franchise is very old. But, how old it is, it is just as famous. If the very first games in the series were designed purely for single-player campaigns with small interspersed elements of multiplayer, then by the mid-2010s it was completely reoriented to the needs of e-sports. In total, the franchise has about 10 different projects.

Wonderful graphics, great gameplay, and a somewhat “torn” engine in its characteristics, which has long become a reason for jokes and gossip, both among fans of the game and among those who dislike it – these are the calling cards of Call of Duty. Today the most popular is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. The franchise’s publisher, Activision, announced that worldwide sales of the game recently exceeded $ 1,000,000,000.

In the course of the game, you have to try on the skin of a military man, who is either in team with other military personnel, or completely alone fights against enemies. The task, in most cases, is very simple – to survive, simultaneously being able to drag as many rivals as possible into the grave. In the arsenal of any player there is a very rich arsenal – all kinds of automatic rifles, shotguns, pistols, knives and much more. Believe it or not, you won’t be bored in Call of Duty.

Tom clancy’s rainbow six siege

This game was released back in 2015, but still enjoys immense popularity and demand among many players around the world. Today it is generally accepted that none of the other games in this genre is able to surpass Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege in the level of its own cinematic accuracy and compliance with the realities of the work of special forces. Today, some special forces groups even recommend this first-person shooter as a visual aid and game model for young people who plan to enroll in special forces, or want to learn more about the main principles of its work.

The average graphics and poor background music in this game do not in the least spoil the main advantage of this game – the gameplay. On the other hand, given that the game was released back in 2015 and was practically not updated graphically, there is no reason to be surprised at the outdated graphics. Separately, it is necessary to praise the physics engine, which sometimes demonstrates just the wonders of modern game mechanics. Perhaps nowhere else has the trajectory of a bullet been calculated so clearly and correctly as in this game.

Speaking about the gameplay, it is necessary, first of all, to mention its high realism. Without a doubt, she deserves the highest praise. So far, none of the games available to the general user has demonstrated so clearly and in such details the entire arsenal, methods of work and command principles of interaction adopted by the special forces. To put it as briefly as possible – this is a full-fledged game textbook for special forces from a former special forces.
