Dragons in Skyrim are one of the most powerful enemies in the game, and they have a disturbing habit of appearing randomly to attack the player. They can use the same powerful Dragon Shout abilities as the player, and their large size makes them even more dangerous. But all this is true exactly until the moment when the ancient lizards do not face a much more dangerous opponent – the engine of the game itself.
Player Hyli-oS shared a short video of them watching what he called a “very rare passive dragon”. The footage shows the player walking in first person around a massive black dragon, which slowly turns its head to keep it in view. This isn’t the first time Skyrim players have encountered dragons that don’t attack right away, but this may be one of the few times a dragon didn’t attack at all.
But the game, apparently, was not enough, and from the crooked scripts, the unfortunate winged lizard got something else. After realizing that the dragon wasn’t going to attack first, the player saved and attacked it to see what would happen. As it turned out, the dragon, for some unknown reason, had extremely low health, and he presumably died. Hyli-oS reloaded the save and decided to leave the dragon alone as it didn’t hurt anyone. This bug is literally the exact opposite of the one where the player was being chased by a teleporting dead dragon.
It’s unclear why the dragon spawned while dying, or why its low health prevented it from attacking. One user suggested that this might have something to do with the passive wolves that werewolf players might encounter in the game.
