Brad Pitt will produce Beetlejuice 2. Winona Ryder and Michael Keaton return to their roles

The long-running Beetlejuice sequel has apparently been given new life thanks to an unexpected source: Brad Pitt. According to The Ankler’s Jeff Snyder, Pitt’s production company Plan B has officially begun work on Beetlejuice 2 with the goal of launching cameras as early as this summer.

Snyder adds that Beetlejuice stars Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder will reprise their roles, while Tim Burton will likely return to direct. For obvious reasons, Alec Baldwin is not involved.

Rumors of a sequel to Beetlejuice have been circulating for years, with Burton, Keaton, and Ryder showing varying degrees of interest in the project. In 2015, it looked like Burton was finally getting the green light from Warner Bros. to continue working on a sequel, but only a year later he admitted that it was no longer in active development.

Released in 1988, the original Beetlejuice was a critical, commercial and cultural success. It earned $75 million at the box office, won an Academy Award for Best Makeup, and spawned an animated series, video games, and even a musical.
