Criterion’s Need for Speed will reportedly release in 2022 and will only be for the next generation

During the latest episode of his show GrubbSnax, insider Jeff Grubb shared encouraging information about the next Need for Speed from Criterion Games. From the looks of it, the new Need for Speed is due out in 2022 on next-gen consoles and PC as well.

Need for Speed is still out this year. This game is due out in November, and I guess if you’re a Need for Speed fan who bought a next-gen console, we’ve got good news – it’s next-gen only. They switch to next-gen just for that.

Grubb also mentioned some of the things he heard about the game’s setting, although he seems to be less certain about these particular rumors.

There are rumors about the setting that I’ve heard. It is difficult to determine whether this is so or not. I’ve heard things like Miami, which makes me think maybe they’ll go the Underground route.

Of course, as always, take it with a grain of salt for now.

Back in 2020, it was announced that the creators of the original Need for Speed at Criterion Games were returning to the series, but not much information has been provided since. In 2021, it was announced that Criterion was putting the Need for Speed project on hold to help release Battlefield 2042.
