After the first image of Crysis 4 was published on the Chinese resource, Crytek officially confirmed that the next entry in the first-person shooter series is indeed in the works. From what we’ve been shown, the new chapter could be even darker than the original trilogy.
Today, Crytek released the official announcement trailer on YouTube. “It’s time to join the journey and be a hero,” the reveal says, showing us some blurry images of nanoparticles and destroyed buildings. You can also see a nano-armor helmet lying on the ground among the ruins.
At the moment, little is known about Crysis 4, other than confirming that the hallmark of the series – nanosuits that grant you extraordinary combat abilities – will return.
Regarding the release date, Crytek CEO Avni Yerli said that “the game is in the early stages of development at the moment, so it will take some time.” Early also said that “the team is working hard to bring you a truly next-gen shooter,” meaning more of the impressive visuals the series is known for.
The studio is committed to listening to the community as the project evolves to ensure that “the next installment in the franchise will live up to your every expectation.” As the team explains, “Crysis is incredibly important to so many people” and the developers “really can’t wait to reveal more details about what lies ahead.”
Shortly before the official reveal, the first image of Crysis 4 was posted by Crytek’s official account on the Chinese social network BiliBili. It showed gloomy scenery, suggesting some kind of post-apocalyptic setting for the game. As described on the site, “The Crysis 4 project is confirmed, opening up a new nano-battlefield!”
The Crysis series began back in 2007 and has received two sequels. The trilogy recently received remasters, launching last October on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PC, and Nintendo Switch. The package includes only single-player story campaigns without multiplayer.
