Epic Games, developer of Unreal Engine and Fortnite, will acquire Bandcamp, the company announced.
As part of Epic Games, Bandcamp will continue to operate as its own marketplace and music community, and will be led by co-founder and CEO Ethan Diamond.
Bandcamp’s mission is to help spread the healing power of music by creating a community where artists thrive through the direct support of their fans. In Epic, we have found a partner who believes as deeply as we do that the future of music and the arts itself depends on building equal and inclusive communities like the one our fans and artists have helped create. We’re excited to work with the Epic team to accelerate our mission and achieve our shared goal of empowering more creators in a fair and open way.
Diamond said in a press release.
Epic Games Store Vice President and General Manager Steve Ellison added:
We are very excited to welcome the Bandcamp team to Epic Games. Bandcamp has created an incredible community and business where aspiring artists can succeed through the direct support of their fans with one of the best income models and conditions in music. This aligns closely with Epic’s approach to supporting creators across all media and enabling them to interact directly with their fans.
