To add to the buzz around Elden Ring, PS Blog has published a celebratory article featuring favorite bosses from From Software games by some of the PlayStation Studios developers as well as Hidetaka Miyazaki, creator of the Souls series.
Although Miyazaki had to choose from Sekiro, Bloodborne, Elden Ring, and the Souls series boss fights, he still managed to pick a favorite. And Miyazaki’s choice fell on the Old Monk from Demon’s Souls!
According to the developer, the character had several programming issues and little to no change, which made him special to him.
“The only boss that makes me proud is the Old Monk from Demon’s Souls. Because there was a lot of opposition to his design and what we wanted to do with it all. But I really, really wanted to do it. I I wanted to bring the concept of such a boss into the game, both from a graphical and gameplay point of view, without forgetting the multiplayer element. At that time we received a lot of resistance, and no one believed in this idea. But in the end we succeeded, and I think he became an intriguing boss that the fans liked.”
Another interesting selection was presented by developers from PlayStation Studios.
Santa Monica Studio artist Ivanna Littschwager nominated Lady Maria from Bloodborne for the “dance-like” battle, while Joe Pettinati, director of storytelling at Naughty Dog, chose Sekiro Guardian Ape for two phases that could surprise the player.
To conclude, Tucker Cole, artist at Bend Studio, chose the Nameless King from Dark Souls 3, and Matthew Kemp, designer from Firesprite, nominated Artorias from the first Dark Souls for its sad and melancholic mood.
Elden Ring releases February 25 for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC (Steam).
