No Man’s Sky developer Hello Games recently released an update called Outlaws that adds pirates to the game. The problem is that players run into them everywhere.
The developers stated the following:
Across the galaxy, star systems have come under the control of criminals. Control of the systems was handed over to rebel forces, leaving space uncontrolled and ripe for piracy. Pirates will now infiltrate planetary atmospheres to attack buildings and settlements, bombarding them from the sky and unleashing fire on buildings and surroundings. Get on your ship and fight off the raiders!.
While pirates are a nice addition to the game, players have complained that they get raided too often. According to Reddit user Spaceracedude, “I was just sitting at home in my castle minding my own business, and I was attacked by pirates six times in ten minutes.” This, of course, made them wonder if this could be the “new normal”. Spaceracedude went on to describe the “constant attack” and “the inability to even roam the planets without having to have a starship next to you at any given time”. Imagine you’re playing permadeath and it happens all the time.”
User Randaximus posted video showing pirates appearing almost out of nowhere, forcing players to jump into their ships and fight their way to safety at a moment’s notice.
I play permadeath and seeing this makes me nervous when I load the game.
While the update has caused quite a bit of confusion, the No Man’s Sky community has shown surprising patience.
Now I can hardly play, because it’s just endless attacks of Marines and pirates. It’s a bit of a shame, because now I have time, and it won’t be until the end of the week, but that’s okay! I know Hello Games is doing an amazing job.
As for when this issue will be resolved, a popular figure in the No Man’s Sky community, Xine, posted a YouTube video about the upcoming patch. It will apparently fix an issue that “caused pirates to attack planetary buildings too often”. Xine went on to say that “it annoyed a lot of people.” When the patch comes out, players will be able to rest easy knowing that “even simple construction won’t be interrupted all the time.”
