Resident Evil: Village Reaches 5 Million Copies

Capcom announced that Resident Evil Village has sold more than 5 million copies worldwide, including digital copies sold. In a press release, Capcom said Resident Evil Village reached 5 million units sold faster than Resident Evil VII, which became the best-selling Resident Evil game of all time with 10 million games sold. So if Resident Evil Village can keep up with the pace of sales, it has a chance to become the next bestseller.

With 5 million copies sold, Resident Evil Village becomes the 10th best-selling Capcom game in the company’s history. 1998’s Resident Evil 2 sold 4.96 million copies and was previously the 10th best-selling Capcom game of all time.

Capcom’s best-selling game continues to be Monster Hunter World, with over 20 million copies sold.

Resident Evil Village shipped 3 million copies immediately after launching in May, bringing the series to over 100 million copies sold. It reached 4.5 million shipments in July and has now added another 500,000 units, reaching the 5 million mark.

Resident Evil Village is rated 9 out of 10 by critics, calling it “a great return to the horrific fundamentals of the franchise, but cleverly redesigned with new ideas and a fresh perspective.”
