Robert Pattinson and Zoë Kravitz are currently in the promotional campaign for the new movie they’re starring in, Batman, which is why they ended up on a recent episode of the French program Clique for an interview.
It’s not entirely clear how the topic of conversation moved beyond Final Fantasy 7, but I’m glad it did because we heard Pattinson explain the JRPG’s central love triangle while Kravitz poked fun at it.
He revealed that he fell in love with Aerith and Tifa in the 1997 PlayStation classic Final Fantasy 7. He talked about his love for both and the game’s big twist. And even raised the issue of mistranslating Aerith/Aeris into the bargain.
I thought I was in love too. I was in love with Aerith, and Tifa! Everyone wants to have both. These are two sides, these are two options for girls that you can have.
When Kravitz admits he doesn’t know Final Fantasy, Pattinson goes into full explanation mode.
[Final Fantasy 7] the best. It’s a love triangle where Aerith – or Aerith, depending on which version of the game you have, sometimes mistranslated – she looks like a very kind girl whose superpower is to heal everyone and make the world a better place.
“Poor women!” Kravitz jokes. “We have to treat everyone, it’s exhausting.”
Pattinson continues unabashedly.
And then Tifa is so sexy, like a thief and all, she wears a short skirt and you’re like, “I can’t decide!” And then Aerith dies! Right at her peak, she gets killed. So every guy understands what love is.
“Either the one who is going to heal everything and the one in the short skirt,” Kravitz asks, “are these options? My God!”
“There are two options!”
“This is the problem of the whole world,” Kravitz laughs.
