Rumor: Microsoft plans to host a major E3-style Xbox event in June

Microsoft will be hosting a new ID@Xbox Showcase on March 16th, but from the looks of it, that’s only the beginning. Xbox Era co-founder Nick Baker revealed that showcases are scheduled for May and September. While the May reveal won’t be a surprise (Xbox 20/20 debuted in May 2020), it looks like the real E3-style big event will take place in June.

That’s according to GamesBeat journalist Jeff Grubb, who answered questions on a recent show with VentureBeat’s Mike Minotti. Regarding the Xbox show, Grubb responded:

Perhaps I will have something to say about this in the near future, but it will be in June, not in May. Maybe they’ll do something in May or September, but I know they’re planning to do an E3-style show in June. They are negotiating with partners to present big games there. It’s going on right now and it’s March so it doesn’t look like they can change this train or turn this big ship around. They are moving in this direction and are going to do something in this time frame.

Andy Robinson of VGC said this was in line with what his own sources said.

An E3-style presentation could very well go ahead, especially if insider Tom Henderson’s reports of a digital event at E3 2022 turn out to be true. Microsoft has been at the show for years, and even when E3 2020 was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the company held a special showcase for its games in July 2020. As usual, take everything with a pinch of salt, but expect something to happen this summer.
