As part of the promotion of his latest film, The Adam Project, popular actor Ryan Reynolds revealed why he doesn’t want to direct in the future. several episodes of the acclaimed series “Very strange things“ from Netflix.
Reynolds has been producing (Protagonist) and even writing (Deadpool) throughout his career. For someone who has such versatility in the field of acting and loves different branches, directing seems like a natural next step. However, in a recent interview with Collider, the actor flatly rejected the idea of directing. He was asked if he was interested in directing after his wife, Blake Lively, directed the “I Bet You Think About Me” video for Taylor Swift. Reynolds quickly replied:
No, directing doesn’t interest me. Storytelling interests me in any form and form, producing interests me in any form and form. It’s the same with acting and I work with guys like Shawn Levy. I don’t even try and think that I can do it myself, that would be idiotic. If someday I can direct something with Shawn Levy, that would be great.
In fact, I like the position I’m in – I like that I can work with the people I work with. I also feel that why should I deprive myself of such a wonderful collaboration? I just think it’s so important in everything I do. I never pretend to be a person who unilaterally makes this or that decision; I love the creative process when there is someone to take something from. I love the creative process of trial and error, tearing things apart and re-creating is what interests me the most and I love doing it with someone else.
It makes perfect sense why Reynolds isn’t going to be behind the camera anytime soon – his passion and inspiration is currently tied to opportunities to collaborate with other people. Reynolds already has a lot to do, as he was recently officially confirmed to star in Deadpool 3. There are also rumors that Reynolds could appear as Deadpool in the upcoming Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which is slated to premiere this May.
