Scientists from Moscow State Technical University have created a film for smartphones that absorbs 95% of scratches

Specialists of the Competence Center of the National Technology Initiative (NTI) “Digital Materials Science: New Materials and Substances” at the Moscow State Technical University. N.E. Bauman created a self-healing film.

It consists of a thermoplastic polymer used for smartphones. The film restores the previous state of 95% of scratches when heated with a hairdryer.

To “heal” scratches, it is enough to heat up to 50-60 degrees with a regular hair dryer. According to the test results, the maximum degree of recovery of the mechanical properties of the thermoplastic film was 95% within 48 hours. Visually, the surface was restored almost completely.

The strength of the damaged sections of the film was restored to 53% due to the formation of new molecular bonds in the material. Recovery efficiency is maintained for damage up to 1.5 mm deep.
