Crystal Dynamics announced that the next Tomb Raider game will run on the Unreal Engine 5. The reason for this was the The State of Unreal 2022 event, which announced the launch of version 1.0 of the new Epic Games engine.
Unfortunately, no details have been revealed, so it’s impossible to say how far the project has progressed. The California-based company has said it can’t wait to show the game, but that’s about all we know for now.
We can only say with certainty that Crystal Dynamics is currently working in several directions. On the one hand, she is working on the new Tomb Raider, and on the other hand, she is helping The Initiative develop the new Perfect Dark, as previously announced.
What can we expect from the new Tomb Raider? Hard to say. Perhaps it will be a complete reboot that will abandon what we saw in the last trilogy, although we do not know in which direction the development team is heading.
During The State of Unreal 2022, Epic Games announced that Unreal Engine 5 is now available to all developers. Until now, the powerful framework was available for download in beta version, but now version 1.0 has been launched, which is more stable and offers advanced features. Also announced was Lyra, a freely editable game designed specifically as a tutorial for the new version of the engine.
