Back 4 Blood’s PvP mode, Swarm, was revealed in detail at E3 2021. In 4v4 mode, players will battle like Cleaners against the Ridden in competition to see which team can last longer against the horde.
Swarm matches will consist of five rounds, in which teams will switch between Cleaners and Ridden, with Cleaners striving to survive as long as possible, and Ridden trying to destroy people. Both teams can earn upgrades by taking kills. Upgrade Points can be used to upgrade the Ridden Horde to destroy the Cleaners faster, or to upgrade the Cleaners to last longer. Updates persist between rounds, allowing players to coordinate which upgrades they unlock over multiple rounds.
The presentation also featured several different variants of Ridden: Reeker, Retch, Exploder, Stinger, Hocker, Stalker, Tallboy, Crusher, and Bruiser. Cleaners can mix and match different attachments on their weapons.
During the Xbox and Bethesda game demo, it was announced that Back 4 Blood would launch on Xbox Game Pass when it launches on October 12. Back 4 Blood will be released on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X | S and PC, on October 12th. Back 4 Blood will also have an open beta with early access in August for anyone who pre-ordered the game.
