The Matrix Awakens tech demo runs at 30-50fps on NVIDIA RTX3090 in 4K

Megacity Sample Project came out a few days ago (essentially the city that Epic Games used to showcase The Matrix Awakens). This metropolis uses Lumen, Nanite and Metahumans and demonstrates what Unreal Engine 5 is capable of. And by the looks of it, this tech demo is one of the most demanding.

Firstly, this tech demo is very CPU intensive. So, even with high-end AMD Ryzen processors, many gamers will experience CPU bottlenecks at 4K resolution. However, things get better when you start using high performance Intel processors.

According to Beyond3D’s Andrew Lauritzen, the tech demo runs at 40-50fps on an Intel i9 12900k with 32GB of RAM and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090.

AJ Gaming also used a similar system, showing a demo running at 30-50fps at 4K resolution.

But it should be noted that this tech demo lacks any serious optimization settings. This may explain such unsatisfactory performance even on high end systems. In addition, there are serious problems with stuttering while driving. Again, this is most likely due to a lack of optimizations. Still, it’s great to watch this tech demo in action.
