The head of 20th Century Studios, Steve Asbell, confirmed that the script for the sequel to the GTA-style movie “Protagonist” is almost ready. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter about the status of the sequel, he said: “We are waiting for the script, which is only a matter of days away from completion. This is a fantastic story“.
The first movie is about an NPC named Guy (Ryan Reynolds) who gains self-awareness. When the developers of Free City – the GTA-like game that The Guy lives in – decide to shut down the servers, the hero begins to fight to save the world as he knows it. But he’s not alone: Guy is helped by Molotov Girl, Free City’s character Millie (Jodie Comer), and her real-world partner Keyes (Joe Keery).
It looks like more sequels from the studio’s films are on the horizon. Asbell stated:
We have more Avatar movies, we have more Protagonist movies. We’ll be very busy.”
Before filming begins on “Protagonist 2,” Reynolds and director Levy have teamed up again for the sci-fi adventure Netflix’s Project Adam. This time, Reynolds plays Adam, a man who must travel back in time to get help from his 13-year-old self. While traveling, he meets his now-deceased father, played by Mark Ruffalo, who is the same age as Reynolds’ character is now.
