On April 20, 2018, Sony Interactive Entertainment released God of War on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 4 PRO. This is not Kratos’ debut on PS4 since the release of God of War 3 Remastered in 2015, but the first part of the Norwegian epic “Ghost of Sparta”, which will continue in God of War Ragnarok.
God of War was a huge hit with critics and audiences alike. Cory Barlog’s game is considered by many to be the best game available on PS4 and the best Sony’s older generation console exclusive due to overwhelmingly positive reviews and strong sales. God of War has sold over 19 million copies on consoles alone, and that doesn’t include sales of the highly successful PC version released in January 2022.
This anniversary is causing a lot of excitement, and there are theories that Corey Barlog will return to Twitter today, a month after his account was deactivated, just in time to celebrate and possibly announce some God of War Ragnarok news.
There’s still a long day ahead, and who knows, maybe Sony will take the opportunity to celebrate the fourth anniversary of God of War with a teaser for the next game in the series, which should be out by the end of 2022, even if an exact release date or launch window has yet to be determined.
