Ubisoft announced Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope

Ubisoft officially announced Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope, the sequel to 2017 Kingdom Battle, at its Ubisoft Forward presentation (which officially opened the all-virtual E3 2021). The confirmation came after the game was leaked to Nintendo’s website earlier Saturday.

The sequel will be released in 2022 with characters such as Mario, Luigi, Princess Peach, Rabbid Peach, Rabbid Luigi and others. They are on a “galactic journey to defeat the evil entity and rescue your companions of the Spark.” Added to the game description: “Explore planets across the galaxy, uncovering mysterious secrets and exciting quests!”

Sparks are the names of new characters formed by the merger of Lumas and Rabbit. Mario and company travel the galaxy to save every planet, save these Sparks and defeat the villainous Course.

There will be nine characters in total (at least at launch), as well as new bosses and “some familiar enemies” to battle. Players will be tasked with rescuing the “adorable sparks” that live in the galaxy and which endow you with “special abilities” that can be used in battle.

Sparks of Hope also features a new combat system. The battles take place in real time and in turn-based tactics, which is different from Kingdom Battle. “You can freely move around the designated area and take cover, team-jump on your allies or charge enemies, all in real time within the Hero’s turn,” Ubisoft said.

There are “dozens” of sparks to collect, and each one has unique abilities and powers.

You can get a closer look at Sparks of Hope in the cinematic trailer below, and a gameplay summary has also been posted. It showcases some of the new locations, abilities and characters that will appear in the sequel. The original Mario + Rabbids (Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle) was originally released in August 2017 and was one of the most played games for the Switch in its early days.
