A week ago, Vulkan 1.3.213 was released, adding four new extensions to AMD’s ray tracing support code. Now Vulkan has been updated to version 1.3.214, which fixes many bugs and introduces another extension.
The new Vulkan update is not a significant change from the previous 1.3.213 update, but offers more resolved fixes and adds an AMD extension – VK_AMD_shader_early_and_late_fragment_tests.
Although the SPIR-V extension SPV_AMD_shader_early_and_late_fragment_tests is still pending SPIR-V registry approval, it is also an extension created by AMD engineer Tobias Hector that will allow early and late fragment tests as appropriate. The extension also includes the ability to add execution modes that will explain the value written by the shader.
