Starfield has become a source of great intrigue, partly because of the hype around Bethesda’s first original intellectual property in years, and partly because not much is known about the game yet. Aside from the teaser, a few unofficial leaks, and some animated concept art, Bethesda’s marketing campaign isn’t in full swing yet.
Regardless, Starfield is poised to become one of this year’s most talked about games – with Starfield’s release date set for November 11th, exactly eleven years after Skyrim first took the gaming world by storm. Bethesda fans can expect the curtain to lift in the coming months, but until then, we’ll have to make do with these tiny bits.
The game’s official Twitter account posted yet another animated concept art, this time showing Neon’s Pleasure City. Built in the middle of a nondescript aquatic world, the tweet implies that the Xenofresh Corporation has made it their home by offering the Aurora drug, synthesized from local marine life, exclusively on the shimmering streets of Neon. Drawing parallels to other Bethesda franchises, Aurora could be the equivalent of Skooma from the Elder Scrolls games or Screw from Fallout.
The Xenofresh Corporation just wanted to fish, but after discovering fish with psychotropic properties, they created the drug Aurora, which is only legal in the pleasure city of Neon.
While each individual tweet doesn’t provide much information or insight into the game’s story, taken together they reveal a significant portion of the Starfield setting and the larger universe in which the game takes place.
The reality of the situation, however, is that Starfield will most likely only take a deep dive into its mechanics and gameplay during this year’s remote online version of E3. While a date for the event has yet to be announced, all signs indicate that Starfield is saving all significant openings for this event. That would be par for the course in terms of what to expect from Bethesda, since Fallout 4 and Skyrim all had belated marketing pushes, with gameplay trailers coming out just a few months before those games were released.
Starfield will release on November 11, 2022 on PC and Xbox Series X|S.
