IgroMir 2016: Impressions (Preview) of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare multiplayer from the exhibition

At IgroMir 2016, the GameAwards.ru team managed to try out the online mode of Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. Unfortunately, the allotted time was only enough for a couple of matches, so they didn’t have time to evaluate all the key innovations, of which there are quite a lot in the new part. However, I still managed to find out something interesting, so to the point.

In absolutely everything that concerns classes in the new Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, ideas are being developed that were implemented back in Call of Duty: Black Ops 3. So, the new game currently has six key classes: the first is “Merc” , second – FTL, third – Stryker, fourth – Phantom, fifth – Synaptic, sixth – Warfighter.

Moreover, the last class is actually quite easy to master. To put it simply, the “Warfighter” class is the most ordinary attack aircraft that runs around the map with a machine gun in hand, a rocket launcher behind his back (to destroy a variety of flying equipment), and a couple of grenades. So I managed to play for him in the first place.

Those players who want to play for any such powerful class, then it is best to take the “Merc” class. This class is designed to quickly and effectively deal with enemies. One of the key abilities of this class is that the character is armed with an armored shield, which makes it possible to destroy the enemy’s defenses, sweeping away the soldiers in his path, like some kind of bull, one after another. In addition, the “Merc” class has a passive ability called “Infusion”, which already allows you to quickly restore health.

We also got a glimpse of the gameplay for the FTL class. What is he like? It’s easier to say that this class is some kind of guerrilla with experimental technology. For example, in combat, he uses an experimental pistol called the “Eraser”. Shots from this pistol turn the enemy to ash, which looks pretty impressive in practice. The key ability of this class is called “Powerslide”: the character increases his speed and sliding distance, while still getting the opportunity to aim well and even shoot during such maneuvers.

The support character in Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare is the Stryker class. Moreover, this class has a rather curious weapon called “Gravity Vortex”. So, the cannon, it turned out, shoots a kind of miniature “black holes” that distort, as it should be, gravity and attract the nearest enemies into it. In addition, this class is capable of summoning a drone to help rescue at any crucial moment from a nearby falling grenade.

The Phantom class is a local sniper that looks like a Predator. However, the abilities also resemble him: the class can temporarily become invisible, and with the help of a special sensor, you find out the location of the next enemy.

The last class is “Synaptic”. And this class is the fastest and fastest – perfect for those battles that are designed for close range. In addition, playing for this class from time to time you can use two extremely powerful machine guns, from which, in most cases, the enemy has nowhere to go.

In general, then, as in the previous part, each class has its own unique skills. Some skills make it possible literally in a matter of seconds to destroy several enemies at once, while others completely change the style of play for this or that hero. In total, more than 50 variations will be available to players, with the help of which it will be possible to build each of the presented classes for themselves.

One of the maps that was available in Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare multiplayer at IgroMir 2016 was the Frontier map. The map can only surprise with its design: once again the narrow corridors of the next scientific complex. Such cards are present in absolutely every part of Call of Duty, so it just doesn’t make sense to describe the details in detail.

However, the “Frost” card is a different matter. The battles on this map take place on a distant snowy planet. There is much more room for maneuver on this map, and in general, even the scenery is very different, and in the previous games of the series this was not the case for a long time. On this “winter” map, the pace of battles immediately slows down, so there is an opportunity to try out all classes at once and more or less get used to equipment.

But in general, it is still difficult to say how successful the design of the cards is. The bottom line is that during the presentation at IgroMir 2016, all battles took place in a conditional, so to speak, center. So it was difficult to meet comrades-in-arms in another part of the map, not to mention the enemies. But this is not a problem. This can be explained simply by the fact that the game has not yet been released and the players have not simply learned all the secrets of the arenas. So after the release, the situation will definitely change.

By the way, you can move around the map not only on your own two, but also with the help of a jetpack. It, as before, is designed for a variety of tactical maneuvers or in order to climb some kind of hill. However, that again is a kind of tactical move.

Locations in Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare are made in such a way that each player always has several options for free movement. I wanted you to get quickly to the second floor, then we made a double jump. We wanted to quickly and tactfully fire at the enemies, then we ran along the wall. In general, there are just a lot of options, everything just depends on the tactics you choose to conduct the battle.

As for the modes, in addition to the usual, standard, classic “Team Deathmatch” mode, we also managed to try out another mode. The second mode is called “Defender” and the essence of this mode is that in it you need to capture a drone located in a certain place as quickly as possible in order to start downloading data later, which thereby allows you to earn victory points for your team. As long as the drone is under your control, you will be defenseless and also marked on the map. However, in case of danger, the drone can be thrown to your partner, or, in extreme cases, thrown nearby.

Thanks to the presented demo, we can safely say that in terms of mechanics, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare is not much different from the previous two parts. Fights, as usual, take place in a rather frantic rhythm. Some players run over you, others along the walls, and a grenade is always found under your feet. However, such a pace has long become a hallmark for the last parts of Call of Duty. So do not expect a higher level of dynamics in the new part.

And, unfortunately, at the exhibition it was not possible to test the new system of “crafting” weapons, but, perhaps, this will allow the participants of the closed beta testing. Therefore, we remind that owners of PlayStation 4 consoles will soon have access to the Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare beta multiplayer – October 14th.
